About the course

This regulated LCL Awards Level 3 Award is designed for candidates who want to upskill in the installation, commissioning, handover, inspection, servicing and maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump systems, excluding refrigerant circuits.

The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to work with Air Source Heat Pump systems, including system components, regulations and standards, installation procedures, testing and commissioning, maintenance and fault diagnosis.

The course is suitable for existing plumbing, heating and gas professionals looking to move into the rapidly growing renewable energy and low-carbon heating sector.

The qualification can also support progression towards the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for heat pump installation, subject to meeting the relevant MCS requirements.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 qualification in Plumbing/Heating or a related trade, or a Gas qualification, plus the WRAS Water Regulations qualification.

Activate states that it can provide the Water Regulations qualification where the learner does not already hold it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available for experienced tradespeople who may not hold all the formal qualifications. Evidence can include employer letters, photographs/documents of previous work, previous qualifications, supervisor statements and a technical CV
