About the course
This qualification is designed for learners seeking to acquire basic skills and knowledge in plumbing.
The course covers a range of fundamental tasks and underpinning knowledge essential to the plumbing industry. You will study practical techniques alongside plumbing principles and technology.
The units covered include:
- Structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation for working in the construction industry
- Above ground drainage
- Copper pipework
- Plastic pressure pipework
- Low carbon steel pipework
- Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Plumbing science
How is the course taught?
You will participate in practical sessions in fully equipped workshops. Theory lessons will be delivered in the classroom using a variety of teaching tools and techniques.

Qualified tutors will guide and support you in classrooms and workshops, as well as through tutorials to help develop industry-relevant skills and techniques. A programme of social and sports activities is offered to all students. Student rooms are available for relaxation, socialising, or playing games.

Canteen and café facilities provide a range of snacks, hot and cold foods, including halal meat options. Washing facilities and Quiet Rooms are available for reflection. Libraries at both centres are fully equipped with learning materials and staffed by friendly qualified personnel.

Students have the opportunity to participate in national and regional competitions related to their subject area. Participation is optional; please consult your tutor for details.

Entry Requirements
You will need English and Maths skills at Entry 3/Level 1. If you do not have evidence of your English and Maths levels, you will be required to complete an online assessment after submitting your application. You may also be asked to complete a piece of free writing or a vocational assessment.
