About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to use your arboricultural skills to help maintain the world-renowned Epping Forest. Join specialist teams caring for Europe’s largest collection of over 50,000 veteran trees, including the largest concentration of Beech pollards in Europe. The role involves pollarding for the future using a mixture of traditional and modern management practices. Epping Forest stretches 14 miles from London’s East End into Essex, covering over 6,000 acres plus 2,000 acres of buffer land, receiving over 10 million visits annually. Two thirds of the Forest is designated as SSSI and SAC and is home to ancient pollards, over 100 ponds and lakes, registered parks, ancient monuments, and listed buildings. The landscape is managed with the help of a resident herd of 200 Longhorn cattle. The City of London manages 11,000 acres of open spaces, parks, and gardens in and around London, committed to sustaining a first-class city. This role offers excellent training, continuing professional development, career progression pathways, and comprehensive personal welfare support including mental well-being programmes, bicycle loan and travel card schemes.
