About the Role

Join our Sustainable Water Management business, a national team of 300 water science and engineering professionals, delivering flood risk management projects for Local Authority clients. As an Assistant Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant, you will gain experience delivering flood risk assessments, flood management projects, and sustainable drainage solutions on technically complex projects. Your role will focus on supporting Local Authority flood management teams with projects including flood investigations, flood strategy development, flood alleviation solutions, natural flood management, sustainable drainage master-planning, and planning process support to achieve sustainable water environment outcomes.
Responsibilities include supporting the delivery of high-quality technical outputs, mentoring junior colleagues, overseeing small project teams, managing projects balancing programme, budget and quality, contributing to business development, coordinating multidisciplinary and client-facing project meetings, and championing positive health and safety behaviours within the team.
Experience
Some exposure or interest in local authority flood risk services such as Sustainable Drainage Systems, Flood Risk Management Plans, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, flood investigations, and planning review support. Interest in delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies to support planning applications.
About you
Motivated to work collaboratively on technically complex projects with a client-facing approach. Ability to manage and support junior colleagues and small teams. Demonstrates positive health and safety behaviours and commitment to quality delivery.
Qualifications
A degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline is essential. Awareness or knowledge of the Flood Risk Management Act, National Planning Framework 4, SEPA guidance, and local authority policies is desirable.
