About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark infrastructure and development projects across sectors including energy transition, nuclear, rail, highways, and residential/commercial development. As an Associate Director / Technical Director Soil Scientist, you will lead and grow our soil science team, working closely with colleagues in Ground & Water, Nature Advisory, Landscape, Environmental Planning, and Sustainability Policy & Compliance. You will help embed soil science expertise across the business and develop our soil strategy, focusing on Agricultural Land Classification (ALC), Soil Resource Assessment, and tailored assessments for Environmental Statements.
Your role will involve managing projects with responsibilities including bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial oversight. You will direct and manage the team, focusing on expanding capabilities and client base while maintaining commercial awareness. You will lead project delivery across the UK, assist in fee proposal preparation, business development, and work winning activities. Additionally, you will mentor junior staff and share your knowledge across environmental disciplines.

Experience
- Degree level qualification in Soil Science or a related field such as physical geology or environmental science
- 10+ years relevant consultancy experience
- Proven experience leading and growing a team
- Strong understanding of relevant policies, guidance, and UK environmental legislation
- Experience liaising with clients, contractors, planning authorities, and stakeholders
- Thorough grounding in Health & Safety procedures including CDM
- Demonstrable excellent communication and written skills

Qualifications
