At WSP, we support many projects defining the next generation of energy infrastructure, helping connect renewable generation, strengthen network resilience and enable Net Zero ambitions across Scotland and the wider UK.
As a Cable Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering complex HVAC and HVDC cable systems across transmission, distribution, renewable energy and interconnector projects. Working from our Glasgow, Edinburgh or Perth offices, you will join a growing team of specialists combining local Scottish knowledge with the scale and technical expertise of WSP's wider UK and global Energy business.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in Scotland while helping to shape and grow a long-term cable engineering capability in the region.

Why join our Scotland Energy Networks team?

- Develop your career with structured professional development, mentoring, Chartership support and progression opportunities.
- Benefit from flexible and hybrid working arrangements combined with local office collaboration.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Energy Networks, Renewable Power, Low Carbon, Environmental, Planning and Asset Management disciplines.

Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing HV and EHV cable systems for power transmission and distribution projects, including cable selection, accessories, installation methodologies and system architecture.
- Undertaking cable system studies and technical assessments such as cable ratings, thermal analyses and performance evaluation using tools like CYMCAP.
- Producing high-quality engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, reports and design documentation.
- Supporting HVAC and HVDC cable solutions for onshore, offshore and interconnector projects.
- Conducting route, site and installation assessments considering technical, environmental and constructability factors.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, safety requirements and environmental regulations.
- Collaborating with project managers, construction teams, manufacturers, contractors and clients to deliver projects successfully.
- Reviewing and approving design modifications and providing technical support through manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning.
