About the Role
The successful applicant will lead a small team delivering the Council’s Climate Emergency Action Plan 2025-2030. This plan includes projects to reduce the Council’s own greenhouse gas emissions and a diverse range of initiatives to help individuals and organisations in the district reduce theirs. Key projects include helping householders improve energy efficiency and install renewable energy, developing a Climate Action Network to support and grow environmental community groups, exploring carbon storage in coastal and marine habitats, collaborating on a Local Area Energy Plan with other local authorities, and analysing local climate adaptation steps. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external organisations. You will attend committee meetings and public events, requiring excellent written communication skills and strong numeracy and Excel abilities to manage the Council’s in-house carbon footprint calculations. You will be based in the dynamic Environmental Strategy team in the scenic cathedral city of Chichester, with opportunities for flexible and home working arrangements where appropriate.

Experience
At least 5 years’ experience in a relevant sector such as carbon management, sustainability, sustainable building services engineering, or the renewable energy industry. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results in a collaborative environment.

About you
Excellent knowledge of climate mitigation, adaptation, and wider sustainability issues. Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects. Confident in public speaking and attending committee meetings. Proficient in written communication and numeracy, including advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Science, Carbon Management, or a relevant engineering specialism is preferred, or equivalent professional experience in the sector.
