The Environment & Innovation team at Southern Water is leading the way in enhancing and protecting the environment by deploying innovative solutions and working closely with customers and stakeholders. With a rapidly expanding portfolio growing from £50 million to over £2 billion over the next 10 years, this fast-paced team is expanding further to deliver sustainable and innovative water quality and flow management solutions across the region.
As a Catchment Specialist within the Catchment Strategy Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering long-term strategies, projects, and actions that influence 5 to 50 year strategic plans. Your focus will be on catchment-scale enhancements to water and environmental quality, particularly the interaction between drinking water quality and wastewater systems. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and Catchment Partnerships to drive impactful outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include supporting technical delivery and reporting to meet regulatory requirements, providing evaluations and recommendations on environmental measures to mitigate predicted challenges, and acting as a subject matter expert on catchment management, water quality, and environmental policy. You will scope and evaluate projects for delivery via specialist frameworks and work cross-functionally to identify synergies and efficiencies across projects such as Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans. Additionally, you will build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, water companies, industry groups, and Catchment Partnerships.
This role offers a hybrid working approach between the Falmer office and home, providing flexibility while being part of a committed and innovative team focused on environmental stewardship and customer service.
Experience
- Proven experience in environmental and water quality investigations and catchment management planning and delivery
- Strong technical report writing and review skills
- Knowledge of water sector operations and regulatory frameworks
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects to high standards and deadlines
- Experience with water quality monitoring, data analysis, GIS mapping, and dashboard reporting
- Experience managing consultancy teams and technical work delivery

Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science or related discipline, ideally with a Master’s qualification or equivalent experience
- In-depth knowledge of water quality investigations and catchment risk assessments
