About the Role
Working with the Board and CEO, the Chair will enable delivery of the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees and ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive.

Principal responsibilities include:
- Provide confident leadership and strategic direction to the Charity and the Board, balancing long-term vision with short-term delivery to maximise impact.
- Ensure Trustees fulfil their fiduciary duties and responsibilities for effective governance.
- Ensure the Board operates within its charitable objectives and complies with charitable and company law.
- Promote good governance and develop the knowledge and capability of the Board, ensuring its performance is regularly reviewed.
- Maintain the right balance of skills, knowledge, and experience on the Board to govern and lead effectively.
- Ensure adequate systems are in place for risk identification, management, and mitigation.
- Line manage and cultivate a strong, constructive working relationship with the Chief Executive to deliver the Trust’s Strategic Plan and Operational Programmes.
- Conduct an annual appraisal and remuneration review for the Chief Executive in consultation with other Trustees.
- Ensure sound financial health of the charity with systems for financial accountability.
- Chair Board meetings effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making.
- Act as an ambassador and advocate for the Charity, maintaining close relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and influencers.
- Represent the Charity at external events when appropriate.

Experience
Proven leadership experience at a senior level, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector. Experience of governance, strategic planning, and working with boards is essential.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required, but relevant governance or leadership training is advantageous.
