About the Role
In accordance with section 88(3) of the Environment (Wales) Act 2016, Welsh Ministers established the Flood and Coastal Erosion Committee, which provides a wider advisory role covering all flood and coastal risk management in Wales. The Committee acts as a mechanism for effective two-way communication with the flood and coastal erosion risk management sector across Wales, maintaining links with all relevant organisations and gathering data, knowledge, and intelligence from all levels of operation. This information is processed into effective advice for Welsh Ministers. Additionally, the Committee disseminates strategic direction for the flood and coastal erosion risk management sector in Wales.
The chief responsibility of the Chair is to lead the Committee and ensure it meets its overall responsibilities to provide advice to the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs. The Chair will motivate, lead, and inspire members to apply their skills effectively, requiring knowledge and experience of flood and coastal erosion risk management at national and international levels, with a particular focus on Wales.
The Chair will also develop consensus among Committee members to formulate recommendations and represent the Committee in meetings. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to effectively guide the Committee’s strategic advisory functions.
Experience
Extensive knowledge and experience of flood and coastal erosion risk management at national and international levels, with a strong understanding of the Welsh context.
About you
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire Committee members. Strong communication and consensus-building abilities to formulate recommendations and represent the Committee effectively. Comfortable working in a flexible, location-neutral role with a mix of online and face-to-face meetings.
