Climate Change & Retrofit Project Manager

Location
London
Hours
Full-time
Salary
£50,175 - £57,495 (Full time equivalent)
About the Role
Southwark Council has declared a climate emergency and is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. This role is central to delivering that ambition by leading a fast-moving, multi-million-pound investment programme to decarbonise the council’s leisure centres. You will also identify and shape future retrofit schemes across civic buildings and the wider estate, while helping to secure associated funding.
You will work closely with technical advisors, contractors, cross-service teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure successful, high-quality delivery. Your responsibilities will include contract management, technical design review, procurement, on-site delivery, project monitoring and evaluation, risk management and resolution, and achieving and monitoring carbon savings.
As part of Southwark’s climate change division, you will join a small, dynamic team focused on delivering one of the council’s top priorities. You will also receive support from a multi-disciplinary programme board and working groups overseeing the operational retrofit strategy.
This is a fixed-term position initially for 12 months, with potential for extension subject to business needs and performance.
Experience
Proven experience in project management, ideally within retrofit, construction, or sustainability programmes. Experience managing multi-million-pound projects and working with diverse stakeholders is essential.
About you
You are an enthusiastic and experienced project manager with a passion for climate action and sustainability. You thrive in a dynamic, cross-council environment and are committed to delivering high-quality outcomes. You value diversity and inclusion and are keen to contribute positively to Southwark’s culture.
We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and ethnic minority candidates as these groups are underrepresented in this area of the business.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in project management, sustainability, engineering, or related fields are desirable but not mandatory. A strong track record and relevant experience will be considered equally.
