About the Role
Join the expanding Bird Aware Essex Team as a Coastal Ranger, supporting a cross-county project dedicated to protecting internationally important birdlife along the Essex coast. Bird Aware Essex raises awareness of overwintering and breeding birds, encouraging responsible enjoyment of the coastline across nine Special Protection Areas and the Essex Coast SAC. This partnership is led by twelve Essex councils alongside Essex County Council, Natural England, RSPB, and Essex Wildlife Trust.
As a Coastal Ranger, you will work on the ground as part of a ranger team, undertaking patrols and delivering a varied programme of engagement activities and events. You will build effective relationships with landowners, community organisations, and recreation clubs in coastal communities, delivering projects that inspire positive behavioural change to reduce recreational disturbance to coastal birds and their habitats.
The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions along the Essex coastline, requiring a passion for wildlife and conservation. Regular travel to sites along the coast is essential, so a full, clean driving licence and access to your own transport are required.
Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and promotes safer working practices through comprehensive policies and pre-employment checks, including safeguarding training and Disclosure and Barring Service compliance.
