About the Role
Do you love learning about what people are doing, connecting them with others and helping to share their stories? Are you passionate about being part of a community that can help make positive change in the world? If so, this key role within the Permaculture Association is for you. Communication is vital for our organisation’s success and as Communications Coordinator, you will play a central role in sharing the work of our members across a wide range of permaculture projects—from small urban initiatives to community gardens and large farms. You will help members connect by sharing stories and information through a regular bulletin, a digest, and social media posts. Your creativity will be essential in designing compelling content to engage broad audiences and promote permaculture.
You will manage and update our website, develop and manage social media channels, and work closely with the Education Lead to promote courses offered through our platform. Additionally, you will support the International Lead in developing communications for a partnership project. This varied role combines strategic, operational, and administrative responsibilities with outward-facing engagement with members and the wider public.
Main tasks and responsibilities include:
- Coordinating a rolling communications timeline and action plan
- Developing a social media content calendar aligned with termly offers to grow our audience
- Leading planning and delivery of specific campaigns
- Managing and curating website content, ensuring staff update their areas
- Designing content that reaches diverse audiences and aligns with our JEDAI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility and Inclusion) action plan
- Engaging with responses on social media channels
- Commissioning and editing member content for various channels
- Writing and sending a monthly member newsletter using our Customer Relations Management system (CiviCRM)
- Collating member activity information for the e-bulletin
- Marketing the Association’s membership, events, and online learning offers
- Monitoring, analysing, and reporting on digital and campaign performance to optimise reach and SEO
- Attending weekly team and quarterly planning meetings
- Contributing income and expenditure figures to the annual budget.

Experience
- Demonstrable understanding of permaculture design and sustainability
- Previous experience in a communications officer, coordinator, or manager role
- Experience managing websites, optimising content, and writing for the web
- Experience marketing courses and/or events
- Confident and effective user and manager of social media channels
- Competent in graphic design using Canva

- Competent in video production and post-production

Qualifications
