About the Role
This role sits at the heart of the Greater London Authority’s Environment and Energy team, leading the planning and coordination of communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement. You will shape how the team’s work is communicated to Londoners, stakeholders, and partners, maximising reach, clarity, and alignment with Mayoral priorities. Working closely with communications colleagues and policy leads, you will develop and implement communication strategies supporting key environmental programmes and campaigns. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the team’s digital presence, advising on media announcements, coordinating events, and ensuring all communications are consistent, impactful, and aligned with the GLA’s brand and tone.
This highly collaborative role requires close coordination with the Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, the Environment and Energy Unit, GLA External Relations, and other teams across the organisation. You will manage communications activity delivery, including systems, channels, and content development. This fast-paced role offers the opportunity to influence how the Mayor’s environment and energy priorities are communicated across London and beyond.
Typical duties include developing and coordinating communications, marketing and engagement strategies for environmental projects and campaigns; translating complex technical policy into accessible public messaging; managing content across key channels such as the GLA website, newsletters, social media, and video platforms; planning and delivering high-profile stakeholder events; advising on communications approaches and reputational risk; managing external suppliers and contractors; maintaining systems to track communications activity and performance; and identifying opportunities for joint communications initiatives with GLA functional bodies and external partners.
Experience
- Leading communications, marketing activities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Creating social media content, including video and reel production, with strong knowledge of key social media platforms.
- Planning and delivering high-profile events aligned with strategic communications goals.
- Working in a large, high-profile organisation regularly in the media eye.
- Providing communications advice and managing reputational risk.

You have strong organisational skills and experience managing external suppliers and content creators.
