About the Role
The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of people from diverse backgrounds united by a shared belief in the importance of nature. With over 944,000 members, 38,000 volunteers, 3,600 staff, and 600 trustees, the federation of 47 independent Wildlife Trust charities works locally to make a positive difference for wildlife and future generations. The next few years are critical to reversing wildlife loss and enabling nature’s recovery at scale to prevent climate and ecological disaster. This role is central to that mission, focusing on community voices and storytelling to inspire action.

As Community and Communications Lead for the Temperate Rainforest Restoration Programme, you will work across teams within The Wildlife Trusts to communicate the importance of temperate rainforests — a rare and biodiverse habitat native to the British Isles — and the restoration work underway along the UK’s Atlantic coastline, with a particular focus on Wales. This £38.9 million, 100-year programme, in partnership with Aviva, aims to create new rainforests on eligible sites, going beyond traditional habitat restoration.

Your role will involve gathering and sharing first-hand stories from local communities affected by nature restoration, highlighting how these efforts help communities adapt to climate change. You will communicate the need for a just transition towards resilient landscapes that benefit future generations, balancing personal storytelling with brand consistency. Your work will amplify community voices and inspire action through direct engagement, digital tools, and clear, audience-specific messaging.

This position requires a passionate science communicator with strong collaboration skills, comfortable engaging face-to-face and building relationships to foster shared ownership of content. Experience in rural or farming contexts, especially within Welsh culture, is beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of UK nature conservation and woodlands is helpful but secondary to your ability to build rapport and tell compelling stories.

The Wildlife Trusts value passion, respect, trust, integrity, pragmatic activism, and diversity. We are committed to inclusivity and encourage applications from underrepresented groups. We are a Disability Confident employer and support adjustments to make recruitment accessible. We also uphold safeguarding responsibilities seriously and require relevant checks where applicable.

Please note that applications completed using artificial intelligence tools may not be accepted.

Contract type: Fixed Term to 31 August 2030
