About the Role
The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of people from diverse backgrounds united by a shared belief in the importance of nature. With over 944,000 members, 38,000 volunteers, 3,600 staff, and 600 trustees, the federation of 47 independent Wildlife Trusts works locally to make a positive difference for wildlife and future generations. The next few years are critical to reversing wildlife loss and enabling nature’s recovery at scale, requiring bold changes in how we mobilise and support communities.
This role focuses on the Temperate Rainforest Restoration Programme, a £38.9 million, 100-year partnership with Aviva to restore and create new temperate rainforests across the UK’s Atlantic coastline. Temperate rainforest is a rare and biodiverse habitat, and this programme goes beyond traditional restoration to establish resilient landscapes that benefit communities and nature alike.
As Community and Communications Lead, you will work across The Wildlife Trusts to tell the story of this restoration, amplifying the voices of local communities, especially in Wales and the west of the UK. Your work will highlight how nature restoration supports communities in adapting to climate change and promote a just transition for future generations. You will create clear, audience-specific messaging and use digital tools to engage people, building coherent narratives that inspire action for nature’s recovery.
This role requires a passionate science communicator with strong storytelling skills, able to balance personal stories with brand consistency. You will engage face to face with communities, building rapport and sharing real-world stories that foster shared ownership of the content produced. Experience in rural or farming contexts and familiarity with Welsh culture is beneficial but not essential. Above all, your ability to connect with diverse audiences and communicate with conviction is key.
Experience
Proven experience in science communication or community engagement, ideally with a focus on nature or environmental issues. Experience working in rural or farming contexts and knowledge of Welsh culture is advantageous but not essential.
About you

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not detailed, demonstrable communication skills and relevant experience are essential. A commitment to safeguarding and equality is required. The Wildlife Trusts are Disability Confident and committed to diversity, offering interviews to candidates from underrepresented groups who meet essential criteria.
