About the Role
Hammersmith United Charities, established in 1618, supports local community organisations addressing complex social issues such as poverty, inequality, and mental ill health. Our gardens, developed on organic principles, provide beautiful and creative spaces for residents to relax or actively engage in gardening activities. These gardens attract butterflies, bees, and birds, and feature plants stimulating in colour, aroma, and texture. Residents tend to their own hanging baskets, pots, and allotments, and participate in gardening projects and workshops designed to foster community involvement. Our gardens have received multiple awards from the London Garden Society, judged according to Royal Horticultural Society guidelines.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a professional gardener to build on the achievements of previous gardeners alongside our Assistant Community Gardener. You will help maintain and develop these award-winning gardens, ensuring they remain vibrant, welcoming, and supportive environments for our community residents.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar gardening role is desirable. Demonstrable knowledge and expertise across a wide range of gardening disciplines and techniques is essential. Proven leadership experience in managing or developing similar environments is required.

You are self-motivated, able to manage and inspire others to achieve high standards. You possess imagination and flair, with a strong understanding of community organisations. Excellent communication skills, empathy, and a caring disposition are essential to encourage and support residents effectively. You value diversity and inclusivity, respecting differences in age, cultural background, disability, mental health, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and social background.
