About the Role
Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council have formed an exciting strategic partnership, and the new Corporate Manager – Biodiversity & Climate Change will support both Councils in their commitment to creating a sustainable future for their communities. This role reflects the importance of tackling climate change, supporting nature recovery and biodiversity net gain (BNG), and promoting environmental sustainability.
The successful candidate will lead a small team across both Councils to implement the Councils’ Climate and Environment Strategies, aiming for net zero Council operations by 2030 and supporting the wider community and partners to achieve net zero across both areas by 2040.
Key responsibilities include implementing priority projects, embedding environmental sustainability across Council activities, working with stakeholders such as Essex County Council, residents and businesses to promote sustainable practices, securing additional funding to support Council objectives, managing the climate change team, and participating in corporate decision-making.
Experience
Proven experience in leading climate change, biodiversity, or environmental sustainability initiatives. Experience managing teams and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders is essential.
About you
You are passionate about environmental sustainability and climate action, with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence at a corporate level. You are proactive, collaborative, and able to work effectively across two Councils and with external partners to deliver ambitious net zero and biodiversity goals.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental science, sustainability, climate change, or a related field is desirable but not essential. Demonstrable experience and commitment to the role’s objectives will be considered.
