About the Role
Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council have formed an exciting strategic partnership, and the new Corporate Manager – Biodiversity & Climate Change will support both Councils. This role reflects the Councils' commitment to creating a sustainable future by tackling climate change, supporting nature recovery and biodiversity net gain (BNG), and promoting environmental sustainability.
The successful candidate will lead a small team across both Councils to implement the Councils' Climate and Environment Strategies. Key objectives include achieving net zero carbon emissions in Council operations by 2030 and working with partners and stakeholders to reach net zero across both areas by 2040.
Responsibilities include implementing priority projects, embedding environmental sustainability across Council activities, collaborating with stakeholders such as Essex County Council, residents, and businesses to promote sustainable practices, securing additional funding to support Council objectives, managing the climate change team, and participating in corporate decision-making.
This is a hybrid role requiring work at both Councils' sites. The successful candidate will be employed by Brentwood Borough Council.
Experience
Proven experience in managing climate change, biodiversity, or environmental sustainability projects. Experience in leading teams and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders is essential.
About you
You are passionate about environmental sustainability and climate action, with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence at a corporate level. You are proactive, strategic, and able to manage complex projects and partnerships effectively.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental science, sustainability, ecology, or a related field is desirable. Demonstrable knowledge of climate change policies, biodiversity net gain, and environmental legislation is important.
