About the Role
The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteer-led think tank advocating the use of blockchain and emerging technologies in the global fight against climate change. We are seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic volunteer to serve as Deputy Director of Research (Energy & Environment). In this role, you will manage and develop the focused research function of the organization, operationalize growth strategies, and strengthen BCI's position as a leading thought leader in digital technology trends and their influence on global climate policy.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with extensive leadership experience, capable of managing globally distributed teams and ecosystem partners. You will lead applied research on environmental and energy policy innovation, support BCI's growth by forging new partnerships, and ensure leadership has the evidence and insights needed to support governments and international organizations in digital technology use cases and policy innovation.

Responsibilities include strategic planning, research leadership, team supervision, stakeholder engagement, and executing subject research on climate-related actions, energy sectors, and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. You will also represent BCI in webinars, climate forums, and sector engagement activities to communicate the research agenda effectively.

Requirements

Experience
- 10+ years in a similar role, ideally in consulting, start-up, public sector, or non-profit environments
- Significant research experience in academic, industry, or private sector settings
- Experience building long-term stakeholder relationships
- Proven ability in stakeholder engagement, public speaking, and communicating research to non-specialist audiences
- Demonstrable experience in executive education focusing on blockchain, AI, or other emerging digital technologies
- Proven track record in executing tailored and specialized research projects
- Familiarity with research tools, advisory services, and talent development capabilities

- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
- High-level awareness of climate frameworks, energy industry, and blockchain technology
- Aptitude for big-picture thinking and problem-solving
- Excellent written English skills; additional languages advantageous
- Proactive attitude with strong attention to detail

Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in environmental policy, environmental technology, digital transformation, sustainability, or a relevant discipline required
- Additional professional qualifications or certifications are a plus
- Strong innovation skills or specialized research expertise essential
- Executive-level awareness of blockchain strategy, environment, sustainability, and governance actions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) essential
- General knowledge of climate change, adaptation finance, energy sector, and blockchain technology preferred
