About the Role
Within the National Audit Office (NAO), small specialist teams called Hubs focus on key areas of expertise. This role leads the Environment and Climate Change (E&CC) Hub, which aims to build the NAO’s skills, influence, and programme of work on environment and climate change to support the value for money of Government’s delivery of its goals. The Hub also acts as a catalyst for improved sustainability reporting and assurance practices in the public sector.
The main purpose of this role is to lead the NAO’s work on environmental sustainability and climate change, guiding the E&CC Hub through its next stage of development. With Government ambitions for net zero by 2050 and evolving sustainability reporting requirements, the NAO plays a crucial role in ensuring public sector sustainability reporting is useful, reliable, and proportionate, while holding Government accountable.
You will lead the team delivering insights on environment and climate change, develop approaches to sustainability reporting and assurance, and produce reports for Parliament and good practice guides. You will also support value for money teams across the NAO to deliver insightful and impactful reports.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity to shape the NAO’s strategy and capability in this critical area, engaging senior stakeholders across Government, Parliament, the private sector, and national and international standard-setters.
Key responsibilities include developing long-term strategy for the Hub, initiating and advising on outputs such as value-for-money audits and assurance activities, building and maintaining external networks, and leading the development of the Hub team and culture. You will work closely with senior leaders across the NAO and manage a core team of senior managers and analysts.
The role reports to the Executive Director, Infrastructure Group, and involves extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including Parliament, expert communities, and audit teams.
