About the Role
EDF Europe (EDFE) is seeking a Director, Private Sector Engagement to lead and shape our engagement with businesses and financial institutions across Europe. This senior role provides vision, strategy, and leadership for projects and solutions that support the decarbonization of the real economy and sustainable finance. Reporting to the Executive Director, Europe, with a dotted line to the US-based Senior Vice President EDF+Biz, you will collaborate closely with global and European colleagues, particularly within the EDF+Business team. This team develops and implements business and investor engagement strategies that accelerate environmental leadership and innovation across industries and supply chains.
The role focuses on redirecting financial flows towards decarbonization efforts in sectors such as shipping, agriculture, oil & gas, and hydrogen. You will leverage EDF’s scientific expertise and collaborate with businesses, financial institutions, policymakers, and standard-setters to advocate for supportive policies and frameworks. Key initiatives include the Dairy Methane Action Alliance (DMAA) and the Net Zero Action Accelerator (NZAA), which help businesses reduce methane emissions and decarbonize effectively.
As Director, you will lead the Europe Sustainable Finance and Corporate Engagement strategies, act as an external voice within the financial system, build strategic partnerships with investors and companies, and manage a small team based in Brussels. You will also oversee budgets, communications, fundraising efforts, and contribute to EDF’s organizational culture and effectiveness goals, ensuring an inclusive and empowered working environment aligned with EDF’s values.
Experience
- Educated to master's level or equivalent professional experience with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
- Prior experience in the corporate or financial sector with a strong understanding of how finance drives business decisions.
- Proven ability to bridge sustainability goals with business objectives, providing practical insights.
- Experience building new workstreams, including gap analyses and stakeholder mapping.
- Skilled in developing strategies for projects or advocacy campaigns, identifying funding, and establishing work plans.
- Experience working in highly matrixed, global organizations.
- Strong networking skills with an ability to develop relationships across corporate, financial, and policy sectors.
- Experience influencing financial institutions and businesses on legislative, policy, and corporate behavior change in the EU and UK.
- Ability to translate environmental challenges into actionable corporate engagement strategies.
- Competent in commissioning, producing, and communicating high-quality analyses to support engagement and policy proposals.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including formal presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing and developing small teams.
