About the Role
Essex Wildlife Trust, the county’s leading conservation charity, is seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our growing ecology team within Essex Ecology, the Trust’s commercial ecology consultancy. You will play a key role in managing ecological surveys, leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and providing expert advice to clients. As part of Essex Ecology, you will support biodiversity monitoring, ecological assessments, and nature recovery delivery across Essex. Your work will contribute to the consultancy’s commercial success while supporting the Trust’s wider conservation objectives. Working closely with Essex BNG and Green Finance Ltd, you will help deliver landscape-scale nature recovery and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) through consultancy, advisory, and monitoring projects.
The role involves fieldwork, client relationship management, report writing, and administrative follow-up, supported by a dedicated administrator. You will be expected to manage your workload efficiently, respond promptly to client queries, and maintain high standards in all written outputs and project documentation. This is a permanent position based at Abbotts Hall, Great Wigborough.
Experience
Proven experience in ecological survey management, project leadership, and providing expert ecological advice within a consultancy or similar setting.

- Ability to mentor and support junior staff.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in ecology or a related discipline is required. Membership of a professional body (e.g. CIEEM) is desirable but not essential.
