About the Role
Essex Wildlife Trust, the county’s leading conservation charity, is seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our growing ecology team within Essex Ecology, the Trust’s commercial ecology consultancy. This permanent role offers an excellent opportunity to progress your career in a supportive and forward-thinking consultancy environment. You will play a key role in managing ecological surveys, leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and providing expert advice to clients. Your work will support biodiversity monitoring, ecological assessments, and nature recovery delivery across Essex, contributing to both the consultancy’s commercial success and the Trust’s wider conservation objectives. Working closely with Essex BNG and Green Finance Ltd, you will help deliver landscape-scale nature recovery and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) through consultancy, advisory, and monitoring services. The role involves fieldwork, client relationship management, report delivery, and administrative follow-up, supported by a dedicated administrator. You will be expected to manage your workflow efficiently, respond promptly to customer queries, and maintain high standards in all written outputs and project documentation. Experience
Proven experience in ecological survey management, project leadership, and providing expert ecological advice. Experience mentoring junior staff and managing client relationships is essential.

Committed to conservation and passionate about biodiversity and nature recovery. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high standard of report writing. Able to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic consultancy environment. Enthusiastic about contributing to both commercial success and charitable conservation objectives.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in ecology or a related discipline is required. Membership of a professional body (e.g. CIEEM) is desirable but not essential.
