About the Role
The Mineral Products Association (MPA) is the leading UK Trade Association representing the Mineral Products Sector, including cement, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and more. Employing 80,000 people and generating £22 billion annually, the sector produces 400 million tonnes of material each year, making it the largest material flow in the UK economy. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the UK minerals industry in its decarbonisation journey.
The Energy and Climate Change Technical Advisor will provide technical and analytical support across all MPA activities related to energy, climate change, and the transition to net zero. Key responsibilities include modelling net zero roadmaps, analysing energy costs and policy impacts such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS), monitoring trade policies like the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism, and responding to consultations.
This analytical and data-driven role involves developing tools for regular progress reporting against roadmaps and assisting MPA members in assessing their carbon footprint. Reporting to the Executive Director for Cement, Lime, Energy and Climate Change, the role is based within the MPA Cement and Lime team but supports all MPA product groups on climate change matters.
Key responsibilities include supporting industry objectives on climate change and energy, analysing policy changes, representing MPA on standardisation committees, developing and updating roadmaps and carbon footprint tools, presenting outcomes to government and industry stakeholders, building networks with organisations such as the Climate Change Committee, contributing to Net Zero and sustainability strategies, producing carbon reporting tools including Environmental Product Declarations, and leading MPA responses to consultations.
Experience
- Science or engineering graduate with around 5 years’ experience in climate change within industry, consultancy, or trade bodies
- Strong administration skills including committee management to deliver outcomes
- Proficient IT skills with sound knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Teams, and SharePoint
- Knowledge of UK and EU legislation related to energy and climate change and understanding of standards and regulations development is desirable
- Experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders using appropriate methodologies

Qualifications
- Relevant science or engineering degree preferred
