About the Role

The Energy Manager will be the Trust’s lead specialist responsible for establishing, monitoring, and overseeing the management of utilities across the organisation. This role leads and coordinates the Trust’s strategic approach to energy and water management and carbon reduction, embedding sustainable practices across policies and operations. The post-holder will be a key stakeholder in the Trust’s efforts to rapidly decarbonise its healthcare estate in line with the NHS net zero target of 2040 for emissions under direct control.
Main duties include managing utilities consumption, costs, and carbon footprint; overseeing utility supplier and energy services contracts; maintaining the relationship with the strategic energy partner; ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations; managing tenant invoicing on utilities; developing metering, monitoring, and targeting strategies; and securing funding for the decarbonisation programme across the estate.

Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline
- Masters degree or extensive relevant experience
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) related to energy management and net zero
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Formal project management or auditing qualification
Experience
- Proven track record of delivering energy management programmes
- Experience securing internal funding and external grants
- Financial management skills
- Partnership working including with utility suppliers and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)
- Knowledge of energy performance certificates and display energy certificates
- Understanding of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme
Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of statutory regulations, legislation, NHS guidance, and market trends relating to utilities
- Understanding of risk management techniques
Skills
- Strong data management and analysis capabilities
- Ability to work across all levels of organisational management and governance
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and systems
- Proficient in report writing, business cases, grant applications, consultations, and presentations
