About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Energy & Sustainability Manager to lead the environmental strategy of a forward-thinking, international facilities management company. This pivotal role will drive Pareto's internal Net Zero and ESG ambitions, while designing and delivering innovative sustainability strategies tailored to our clients' needs. The role spans strategic leadership, technical implementation, and compliance, targeting improvements in energy use, waste reduction, and overall environmental performance.
Key responsibilities include leading the development and delivery of Pareto's Net Zero roadmap and ESG strategy, overseeing corporate environmental reporting and compliance, and engaging with the Environment & Sustainability Committee. You will build strong collaborative relationships with clients and internal teams to implement ESG objectives, provide consultancy and technical guidance, and conduct sustainability and energy audits.
Operationally, you will advise on asset and systems optimisation including HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, and BMS, champion innovative energy management solutions, and deliver end-to-end sustainability projects. You will ensure compliance with legislation such as ESOS, SECR, EPC, MEES, and ISO 14001, stay informed on emerging regulations, and manage carbon footprinting and ESG disclosures.
Additionally, you will provide training and workshops to embed sustainability into company culture and support communications showcasing environmental progress and success stories.
Experience
- Proven experience in energy and sustainability management within the built environment or consultancy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of UK regulations and frameworks including ESOS, SECR, Net Zero, and ESG.
- Skilled in energy surveys, costed proposals, feasibility studies, and business case development.
- Experience working with HVAC systems, lighting, BMS, energy controls, and CAFM/CMMS systems.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interrogate large datasets and performance benchmarks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing and presenting professional reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), databases, and sustainability platforms.

Qualifications
- Degree in sustainability, environmental science, energy management, engineering, or related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Desirable accreditations include ESOS Lead Assessor or similar.
- Professional memberships such as IEMA, CIBSE, or Energy Institute are advantageous.
- Experience with sustainability standards such as BREEAM, ISO 14001, SBTi, or TCFD reporting is preferred.
- Understanding of soft services in facilities management is beneficial but not essential.
