About the Role
Within the Anglian Water @one Alliance, a collaborative organisation comprising seven partner companies including Barhale, we are preparing for AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet. This period will focus on delivering a larger programme than ever before, with an emphasis on nature-based solutions such as wetlands and urban drainage schemes. As the Environmental and Sustainability Manager, you will lead and support our commitment to environmental excellence and sustainability across the @one Alliance. You will oversee environmental compliance, promote sustainable practices across projects, and ensure adherence to environmental legislation and best practices. Managing a team of Environment and Sustainability Advisors, you will collaborate across teams to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on both our projects and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert environmental support to construction projects and develop sustainable working practices during construction.
- Collaborate across the @one Alliance to ensure compliance with the Alliance Management System (AMS) and environmental legislation.
- Manage environmental audits, inspections, and non-conformance reports (NCR).
- Develop and manage an environmental audit schedule and conduct ISO 14001 audits.
- Lead regular Environment and Sustainability Team meetings and engage with internal and external stakeholders to report on environmental performance.
- Develop and deliver environmental training and create educational tools to address near misses and incidents.
- Collate, validate, and report on environmental data including sustainability and waste data, driving continuous improvement based on performance targets and audit outcomes.
Experience
- Proven environmental management experience within the construction industry.
- Experience with environmental and sustainability issues such as contaminated land, waste management, soil testing, carbon, ecology, and incident investigation.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations.
Qualifications
- Degree in an environmental-related subject.
- PIEMA Membership (IEMA Chartered status desirable).
- Lead ISO 14001 Auditor or Auditor training.
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in document production tools including Visio, Power BI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and GIS.
- Strong organisational and negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop strategic solutions and resolve conflicts.
