About the Role

As an Environmental Permitting Co-ordinator, you will ensure the business holds all necessary environmental permits, consents and licences to legally operate Southern Water’s wastewater and water supply discharge activities, protecting the company’s regulatory position. You will negotiate permits to deliver appropriate business benefits and act as the principal environmental permitting interface with the Environment Agency and Natural England. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include securing all necessary permits in Sussex to support Southern Water’s AMP capital programme and wastewater management, ensuring new permit conditions are communicated within the business, providing permit expertise and advice, and representing Southern Water at regional and national meetings with regulators and Water UK. You will also maintain and update the company’s permit management system to reflect any new permit conditions. Experience
Experience liaising and negotiating with environmental regulators is essential. Familiarity with environmental permits and consents, ideally within the water industry or environmental sector, particularly wastewater and waste management, is highly desirable.

About you
Strong negotiating and communication skills, able to engage effectively with stakeholders at various levels internally and externally. Ability to assimilate and simplify complex regulatory issues. Excellent verbal reasoning skills. Numerate with competent IT skills. Enthusiastic about contributing to environmental protection and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications
An Environmental Degree is preferred but not essential.
