About the Role
This apprenticeship places you within a professional team of engineers and scientists working across various sectors of the built environment. The primary goal is to improve the sustainable performance of buildings by analysing design solutions and enhancements using third party tools and methodologies that provide transparency, rigour, and accreditation.

You will be part of the Sustainability and Building Performance Team at Troup Bywaters + Anders LLP, based in their London office. Reporting to the team’s partner and supported by a line manager and mentor, you will develop solutions for clients from start to finish. This includes attending workshops and meetings, developing initiatives, communicating findings through oral presentations and written reports, and assessing project outcomes.

Typical daily duties include contributing to building design and operations teams on sustainability initiatives, meeting with clients to progress projects, visiting buildings to undertake energy and environmental audits, developing strategies to improve building performance and sustainable operations, and performing engineering and scientific analysis to validate these solutions. You will also work on long-term roadmaps for building performance such as net zero carbon strategies and collaborate with third party building accreditation schemes like BREEAM to assess and certify building design and operations. Over time, you may pursue professional qualifications under these schemes.

The apprenticeship duration is five years, starting Tuesday 1 September 2026. Most of your time will be spent working on the job, gaining hands-on experience, alongside day release for your Level 6 Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship. Upon successful completion and depending on available roles, a permanent position may be offered, continuing a pathway many current staff, partners, and board members have followed.
