About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The District Council as an Environmental Services Officer within the Waste Team of Environmental Services. The team is focused on embedding a culture of exceptional performance and continuous improvement while prioritising environmental sustainability. The Council is committed to operating responsibly and sustainably, recently achieving silver accreditation from the Investors in the Environment scheme and ranking 43rd nationally on the council climate scorecard.
Join us on our mission to create a cleaner, greener East Cambridgeshire. This role offers the chance to make a real difference by engaging with the community and key stakeholders to reduce waste, increase recycling, and maintain a great environment. The Waste and Environmental Services Team has recently redesigned waste and street cleansing services to provide a resilient service with environmental benefits at its core. We are now implementing a multi-million-pound new service, including new waste and recycling collections and investment in new fleet and technology to maximise environmental benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Play a key role in the successful rollout of new weekly food waste and black bin collection services
- Engage directly with customers and stakeholders to influence positive changes in attitudes and participation
- Plan daily visits, make phone calls, and send emails and letters to listen to customer concerns and agree solutions, applying your knowledge of the service (full training provided)
- Gather, report, and analyse information and data to enable smooth transition during mobilisation
- Support the Council’s Waste and Street Cleansing client team to ensure waste operations are delivered with high levels of customer service and engagement
- Assist the waste team in the day-to-day management of existing services
Experience
We are flexible about your experience. You may be a new graduate or have experience in waste, recycling, and street cleansing services. Whatever your background, a passion for the environment and a commitment to making a difference are essential.
About you
- Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
- Confident in data interrogation using IT systems and databases with great attention to detail
- Flexible approach to work, able to respond quickly to changing priorities
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to act on your own initiative
- Current driving licence and use of own car
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required, but a commitment to environmental sustainability and a ‘can do’ attitude are vital.
