About the Role
Join Balfour Beatty's Major Projects team in Derby as an Environmental Sustainability Manager and deliver complex work that truly matters to both our business and the environment. You will ensure projects comply with all relevant regulations, company policies, planning permissions, and management systems. Your role will involve supporting project teams to meet contractual, compliance, and business management requirements while providing environmental and sustainability leadership.

You will communicate and engage with project teams to implement environmental and sustainability requirements, manage resources, advise all levels within projects including Project Managers, Engineers, operatives, office staff and subcontractors. You will promote lessons learned from incidents and audits, conduct site inspections, manage local audit programmes and planning compliance, and support upskilling and development of operational teams.

Additionally, you will promote environmental initiatives and innovations, develop case studies showcasing Balfour Beatty’s expertise, provide regular updates to leadership on sustainability performance, and manage external stakeholders, regulators, and reputation in line with business strategy.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in the Civil Engineering or Construction industry in an environmental and/or sustainability role
- Experience leading a team
- Cost estimation and commercial awareness
- Experience implementing ISO 14001
- Excellent organisational skills

About You
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to operate in a range of environments
- Ability to positively influence environmental and sustainability outcomes within projects
- Strong leadership and advisory skills
- Full UK driving licence

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant field (essential)
- Internal environmental auditor qualification (desirable)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (desirable)
