About the Role
Join Balfour Beatty's Major Projects team in Derby as an Environmental Sustainability Manager and play a key role in delivering complex projects that matter to both the business and the environment. You will ensure projects comply with all relevant regulations, company policies, planning permissions, and management systems. You will support project teams to meet contractual, compliance, and business management system requirements while providing environmental and sustainability leadership. Your role includes advising and guiding all levels within projects, managing environmental and sustainability resources, promoting initiatives and innovations, conducting site inspections, managing audits and planning compliance, and supporting incident investigations. You will also contribute to continuous improvement through lessons learned, case studies, and stakeholder engagement, while providing regular updates to the leadership team on sustainability performance. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects, including HS2 and Hinkley Point C, using the latest technology to deliver sustainable solutions that strengthen communities.
Experience
- Proven experience in the Civil Engineering or Construction industry in an environmental and/or sustainability role
- Proven experience of leading a team
- Experience in implementing ISO 14001
- Cost estimation and commercial awareness

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to operate in a range of environments
- Ability to positively influence environment and sustainability within projects
- Excellent organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant field (essential)
- Internal environmental auditor qualification (desirable)
- Master's degree in a relevant field (desirable)
