About the Role
Join Balfour Beatty's Major Projects team in Derby as an Environmental Sustainability Manager and play a key role in delivering complex projects that make a real difference to our business and the environment. You will ensure projects comply with all relevant regulations, company policies, planning permissions, and management systems. Your role will involve supporting project teams to meet contractual, compliance, and business management system requirements, providing environmental and sustainability leadership, and advising all levels within the project including managers, engineers, operatives, office staff, and subcontractors. You will manage environmental and sustainability resources, promote initiatives and innovations, conduct site inspections, and lead local audit and planning compliance programmes. Additionally, you will support incident investigations, upskill operational teams, communicate lessons learned, and contribute to continuous improvement through communities of practice. You will also develop case studies showcasing Balfour Beatty’s innovation and expertise to enhance business development and external reputation, provide regular updates to leadership on sustainability performance, and manage external stakeholders and regulators in line with the company’s approach.
Experience
- Proven experience in the Civil Engineering or Construction industry in an environmental and/or sustainability role
- Experience leading a team
- Cost estimation and commercial awareness
- Experience implementing ISO 14001
- Full UK driving licence

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant field is essential
- Internal environmental auditor qualification (desirable)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (desirable)
