About the Role
Hearst is the UK's leading premium publisher behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, and Country Living. We foster a collaborative working environment that encourages innovation, trust, and continuous improvement while having fun building on our heritage.

The Environmental Sustainability Manager role is pivotal in driving Hearst's environmental sustainability strategy in alignment with Hearst Group guidance. As a media company, our primary responsibility is to educate our audience on science-based environmental sustainability best practices while actively reducing our carbon emissions.

This role involves proposing and implementing initiatives approved by Hearst UK, HMI, and Hearst Group environmental leads, supporting local sustainability efforts across multiple international markets including Spain, Italy, Netherlands, China, Taiwan, and Japan.

Key responsibilities include:
- Keeping up to date with environmental regulations such as ESOS, CMA greenwashing ad content, and EUDR deforestation regulation.
- Conducting environmental assessments and developing action plans addressing direct impacts (carbon footprint, energy use, waste, water, business travel) and indirect impacts (publishing climate change information).
- Developing and implementing environmental policies, strategies, and sustainability initiatives to reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders including Hearst UK ELT, Commercial, Good Housekeeping Institute, Events team, and HR to embed sustainability across the organisation.
- Leading training, communications, and editorial support to promote environmental awareness and compliance with CMA green claims codes.
- Engaging with external stakeholders such as suppliers, customers, and community groups to promote sustainable practices.
- Monitoring and reporting progress through Planet Hearst UK, managing ISO14001:2015 EMS requirements, ESOS annual reporting, carbon assessments, and SBTi target achievements.

The role is split between Hearst Magazines UK (2.5 days per week) and Hearst Magazines International (2.5 days per week), supporting aligned sustainability initiatives across global markets.
