About the Role

As an Environmental Sustainability Manager, you will follow guidance from Hearst Group and its environmental sustainability framework to lead and implement sustainability initiatives across Hearst Magazines UK and International markets.
Your primary responsibility will be to educate our audience on science-based environmental sustainability best practices while reducing Hearst's carbon emissions. You will propose and implement initiatives aligned with UK government regulations and Hearst’s sustainability goals, collaborating closely with local sustainability leads across Europe and Asia.
Key responsibilities include:
- Staying up to date with environmental regulations such as ESOS, CMA green claims codes, and EUDR.
- Conducting environmental assessments covering carbon footprint (scope 1, 2, and 3), energy use, waste, water, and business travel.
- Developing and implementing environmental policies, targets, and strategies.
- Designing sustainability initiatives to reduce direct environmental impacts and supporting commercial, marketing, and editorial teams.
- Engaging internal stakeholders including Hearst UK ELT, Commercial teams, Good Housekeeping Institute, Events team, and HR to embed sustainability across the organisation.
- Leading internal and external sustainability communications and training programs.
- Collaborating with suppliers, customers, and community groups to promote sustainable practices.
- Monitoring and reporting progress through Planet Hearst UK, managing ISO14001 EMS requirements, ESOS annual reports, and carbon reduction targets.
- Supporting Hearst Magazines International business units by contributing to aligned sustainability initiatives.

Experience
Proven experience in environmental sustainability management, preferably within a corporate or media environment. Strong knowledge of UK and international environmental regulations and standards such as ISO14001, ESOS, and SBTi. Experience working with carbon footprint assessments and sustainability reporting.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sustainability initiatives and policies. Experience engaging with multiple stakeholders across different regions and business units.
Excellent communication skills with experience delivering training and sustainability communications.

Qualifications
PIEMA Practitioner Environmental Management and Assessment or equivalent professional qualification.
Relevant degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, sustainability, or related field is desirable.
