About the Role
Own your career and build something to be proud of at Balfour Beatty. Join our Highways team as an Environmental Sustainability Manager on the RIP Mottram Moor Link Road & A57 Link Road project, working alongside true experts who will share knowledge, provide support, encouragement, and invaluable feedback to help you continuously learn and develop. In this role, you will promote a positive environmental culture through proactive engagement and communication with project teams, supply chain, clients, and statutory bodies. You will maintain and update plans and procedures including the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) during the works, approve relevant documents such as the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and method statements in consultation with the National Highways Project Manager and statutory bodies. You will appoint, train, and monitor the performance of Environmental Advisors, Ecological Clerks of Works, Environmental Management Representatives, and Sustainability Coordinators. Acting as the main point of contact between regulatory authorities (Environment Agency, Natural England, Heritage England, Local Authorities) and other third-party consultees, you will coordinate and undertake regular site inspections with construction teams to monitor compliance with environmental licences, consents, plans, and procedures, implementing corrective actions as necessary to ensure compliance with UK regulations and legislation. You will investigate environmental incidents and near misses in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and share lessons learned. Keeping detailed records of all site activities, environmental issues, transgressions, and tasks undertaken, you will provide professional and practical advice to contractors, consultants, and project team members on environmental and ecological matters. Additionally, you will undertake risk assessments and review work package plans to ensure suitability and compliance with company requirements, applying these to both direct and subcontract works.
