About the Role
Own your career and build something to be proud of at Balfour Beatty. Join our Highways team as an Environmental Sustainability Manager on the RIP Mottram Moor Link Road & A57 Link Road project, working alongside true experts who will share their knowledge, provide support, encouragement, and invaluable feedback to ensure continuous learning and development. You will promote a positive environmental culture through proactive engagement and communication with project teams, supply chain, clients, and statutory bodies. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating environmental plans and procedures such as the Environmental Management Plan (EMP), approving relevant documents (CEMP, method statements) in consultation with the National Highways Project Manager and statutory bodies, and appointing, training, and monitoring the performance of Environmental Advisors, Ecological Clerks of Works, Environmental Management Representatives, and Sustainability Coordinators.

You will act as the main point of contact between regulatory authorities (Environment Agency, Natural England, Heritage England, Local Authorities) and the project on-site, coordinate and undertake regular site inspections to monitor compliance with environmental licences and plans, implement corrective actions to ensure compliance with UK regulations, investigate environmental incidents and near misses to identify and share lessons learned, and keep detailed records of all site activities and environmental issues. Additionally, you will provide professional and practical advice to contractors, consultants, and project team members on environmental and ecological matters, and undertake risk assessments and work package plan reviews to ensure suitability and compliance with company standards. This role applies to both direct and subcontract works.
