About the Role

Our mission is to delight merchants and customers through innovation, optimism, and teamwork. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated ESG Intern to join our Sustainability team for a 6-month internship from 1st October 2025 to 31st March 2026. This role is crucial in supporting daily activities by managing and analyzing ESG data, maintaining documentation, and providing administrative support. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in sustainability and ESG principles, excellent data management, and organizational skills. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on ESG topics and Rakuten's ESG strategy and projects
- Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to gather information and ensure alignment with ESG goals
- Assist with internal communications to promote ESG initiatives
- Maintain organized records of ESG activities, compliance documentation, and research findings
- Contribute to preparation of reports and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders
- Support ESG data monitoring and compliance processes
- Research ESG and sustainability training programs
- Support social impact programs by assisting with project coordination and partner communication
- Help develop employee engagement opportunities to foster community giving back

Experience
Some work experience in a similar role with direct environmental sustainability specialization is a plus but not mandatory.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Law, Business Administration with a focus on sustainability, or a related field.
