About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), one of the world's leading non-profits working at the intersection of environmental conservation and human rights. We are a lean, agile, creative, strategic, and results-driven organisation. This varied and fast-paced role is for an outstanding EU Communications Officer with a proven track record of securing high-level media coverage for environmental campaigns and delivering policy impact.
You will have a passion for our work and the drive, experience, and skills to build our audiences, raise the profile of our campaigns, and get our perspectives in front of key decision-makers. This role suits someone with strong experience in journalism or working in a press office, with a passion for placing impactful stories that drive real-world progress for a more sustainable planet.
You will develop communications strategies tailored to our audiences, enjoy meeting and briefing journalists, and proactively pitch key stories. You will secure significant media coverage for EJF’s messages across the EU and individual Member States. Working independently, you will ensure a steady flow of high-quality press outreach, pitch and write articles and op-eds, and know how to place material in outlets read by political decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement integrated communication plans and campaigns to support EJF’s EU policy work
- Ensure impactful and consistent coverage of campaigns in high-profile media outlets
- Prepare press releases and media packs for report launches and external developments
- Respond swiftly to media enquiries
- Research and engage media contacts and outlets to increase EJF’s reach, building and maintaining a media database
- Collaborate with the global communications team to develop coordinated media strategies across geographies and languages
- Evaluate and report on press performance with recommendations for improvement
- Create engaging content for various communication channels including website, social media, newsletters, op-eds, and blogs
- Uphold high standards of scientifically rigorous yet engaging writing
- Host press briefings at events with external stakeholders
Experience
- At least 3 years working in communications, press office, journalism, or similar roles with a focus on high-level traditional media
- Proven success in securing media coverage and developing communication materials
- Experience engaging with journalists across different media types
- Knowledge of media outlets read by EU political decision-makers and how to place articles effectively
About You
- Professional fluency in English and either French or Spanish, with excellent writing and editing skills
- Excellent copywriting skills, able to work under pressure and identify compelling stories linking current affairs to EJF campaigns
- Exceptional creativity and drive to find new opportunities to promote EJF’s work
- Outstanding attention to detail and factual accuracy
- Reliable, determined, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work effectively within a small, dynamic, international team
- Superb organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver timely outputs
- Passionate about environmental justice
Desirable Skills and Attributes
- Professional fluency in both Spanish and French
- Experience using social media as a campaigning tool
