About the Role
Whatever your experience of street homelessness and its impact on people’s lives – personal or professional – when you join the Thames Reach team as a First Contact Worker we will make the best use of all your understanding, compassion and commitment. Thames Reach runs projects and services that help to end homelessness in and around London. We work directly with homeless people on the streets and in hostels, prevent vulnerable people from becoming homeless, and help formerly homeless people get their lives back on track. We support people to find work and access training and volunteering opportunities. Our mission is challenging but rewarding, and we are proud to be listed as one of the top 100 Best Workplaces in the UK.
Thames Reach’s hostels are transitional spaces where a 24-hour staff team supports people to move in, assess their needs, and quickly identify the best next steps. Skilled staff develop personalised support plans to ensure people are ready to move on and access support with health, substance misuse, criminal justice, and life skills needs.
As a First Contact Worker with the Acre Lane team, your responsibilities will include managing the security of the building, arranging repairs and coordinating maintenance works, being the first point of contact for visitors and residents, updating administrative files, organising stock, and providing vital support to staff working directly with clients.
Experience
Good communication skills including face-to-face, written, and telephone interactions. Proficient IT skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience in keeping clear and concise records. Flexibility to work across two projects.
About you
Compassionate and committed to supporting people affected by homelessness. Able to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple responsibilities. Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments.
Additional Information
Thames Reach is committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. Applicants must be willing to undergo pre-employment screening including DBS checks. Having a criminal record will not automatically exclude you from consideration.
