About the Role
We’re looking for a forward-thinking and proactive Flood Risk and Resilience Manager to lead vital work that safeguards people, infrastructure, and the environment. In this role, you’ll take the lead on the authority’s statutory responsibilities around flood risk management, sustainable drainage, and infrastructure resilience. You’ll also play a key part in shaping and delivering capital projects and community initiatives that reduce flood risk and improve the wider water environment.
Key responsibilities include leading the authority’s statutory functions related to flood risk, surface water, and drainage systems; developing strategies and policies to support sustainable drainage and long-term infrastructure resilience; working collaboratively with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to deliver capital schemes and community engagement projects; identifying opportunities to enhance the local water environment in line with environmental and climate goals; and providing expert advice and guidance on flood and water management across the organisation.
Experience
In-depth experience in flood risk management, sustainable drainage, water cycle planning, watercourse and sewer infrastructure, and climate change. Proven ability to lead statutory flood risk functions and deliver capital projects and community initiatives.
Strong project management skills with a track record of strategic thinking and data-driven decision making. Experience in carrying out detailed numerical analysis, identifying trends, and applying sound judgement with political awareness.
Confident and credible communicator, able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including senior figures within and outside the Council.
About You
You are a forward-thinking professional with a solid understanding of the scientific, technical, and regulatory frameworks related to flood risk and water management. You demonstrate professionalism and clarity when responding to technical enquiries, presenting complex ideas, and negotiating at meetings.
You have the ability to translate technical information into clear, concise reports and recommendations for senior managers and committees, showing both subject matter expertise and political sensitivity.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in civil engineering, environmental policy, or a related field are required. Evidence of continued professional development is essential.
Ideally, you are a PRINCE2 Practitioner or willing to work towards this qualification.
