We are looking for an Associate or Associate Director Flood Risk and Water EIA consultant to take a leadership role in our Bristol office and work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients. Our Bristol office is a hub for 18 water environment professionals across water quality, water resources, geomorphology, water EIA and flood risk disciplines. This role will provide leadership to 3 team members focusing specifically on water EIA and flood risk.
The successful candidate will lead the delivery of water EIA and flood risk studies supporting a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such as renewable energy schemes in Wales, major highway schemes in the South West and Heathrow’s expansion in London. Working as part of our national team, you will also collaborate across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team including LLFA technical services, permitting applications, drainage design and Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading project delivery and managing interfaces with clients and internal stakeholders
- Supervising, coordinating and reviewing inputs from others to deliver high-quality technical outputs
- Collaborating with senior colleagues across WSP’s Sustainable Water Management and Earth and Environment teams to develop business opportunities and prepare proposals
- Managing projects effectively balancing programme, budget and quality while ensuring the highest health and safety standards
- Acting as Bristol Team Lead providing people management to 3 team members and supporting recruitment and growth of the office
- Providing technical guidance, training and support to junior colleagues
- Playing a key role in growing WSP’s technical capability, knowledge and innovation to develop new client services
Experience
- Proven experience managing Water EIA and Flood Risk deliverables with strong technical capability in either Water EIA or Flood Risk (expertise in both not required)
- Demonstrable leadership or major contributor role in technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery related to planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects
- Experience preparing water EIA, Flood Risk Assessments (FRA), WFD inputs to planning applications, participation in Development Consent Order (DCO) examinations or planning inquiries, and environmental permit applications
- Track record delivering complex, high-profile projects for the water environment, especially within the UK’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects planning regime
- Excellent knowledge of UK regulatory context for planning and EIA
- Experience managing team members with focus on professional and technical development
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Successful client and stakeholder relationship management
- Practical project management experience including managing project teams and challenging projects

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline (essential)
- Chartered status with C.WEM, CEnv, CSci or CEng
