We are looking for a Consultant with experience in delivering flood risk assessment projects to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients. As part of our national Sustainable Water Management team, you will work seamlessly across other technical areas including flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services, flood management solutions, Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
Your main focus will be Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, with wider involvement in flood modelling, flood management, and Water EIA as appropriate to your experience. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring junior team members will also be part of your role.
Responsibilities include:
- Undertaking flood risk assessments and preparing deliverables
- Supporting complementary projects and developing skills in sustainable drainage design, planning application reviews, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, permitting applications, and environmental assessments
- Conducting site surveys to collect baseline information and support Section 19 investigations
- Leading certain project management activities including financial and programme management
- Communicating and liaising effectively with the project team and wider business
- Working collaboratively within the team and supporting junior staff in developing their technical knowledge
Your Team
Due to strong growth in our Sustainable Water Management business, we are seeking colleagues experienced in Flood Risk Assessments to join our team of 350 water consultancy and engineering professionals. Our Leeds team includes five water environment and flood risk specialists working collaboratively with regional and national teams.
We have a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such as the Bristol Heat Network and Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road, working with clients including National Grid, Network Rail, and National Highways. We also support Local Authorities and Lead Local Flood Authorities with transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies, and planning review support.
The Sustainable Water Management business operates nationally with fair and transparent project allocation, considering personal interests and development aspirations.
Experience
- Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments and supporting skills such as flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design, or Water EIA, preferably in consultancy
- Experience providing technical inputs for planning and permitting of major infrastructure projects, including FRA and Water EIA inputs to planning applications, DCO examinations, planning inquiries, and environmental permit applications
- Knowledge of the UK regulatory context for flood risk planning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Some experience supporting project management

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science, or engineering discipline (essential)
- Actively working towards chartered status with C.WEM, CEnv, CSci, or CEng
