About the Role
The Flood Risk Officer will assist in the development and implementation of the County Council’s local flood risk management strategy. You will gather and analyse information and data to support flood risk management activities, collaborating with officers across all County Council service areas, District Council partners, and the local community. The role involves responding to internal and external enquiries on flooding and related activities, preparing reports and briefing papers for senior officers and elected members to support the Council’s flood risk management responsibilities. Additionally, you will provide support to the Project Officer in delivering flood risk management projects and initiatives.

The Flood Risk Management Team has a statutory role under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 to manage flood risk from surface water, ordinary watercourse, and groundwater. The team focuses on investigating flooding, working with partners, and supporting residents to reduce flood risk and take an active role in water management across the County. With the impacts of climate change becoming increasingly evident, the team aims to help Hertfordshire understand these impacts and how to "live with water" by implementing both traditional and innovative flood mitigation measures.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a creative, forward-thinking team that values partnership working and innovative solutions to help the residents of Hertfordshire manage flood risk effectively.
