About the Role

Join our Catchment Science team as a Fluvial Geomorphologist/Hydromorphologist specialising in fluvial geomorphology, Water Framework Directive (WFD), natural flood management (NFM), nature-based solutions (NbS), weir removal, river and catchment enhancement, and biodiversity net gain (BNG) for watercourses. You will play a key role in delivering our growth strategy for Hydromorphology, providing mentoring and technical support to our expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity to tailor your role to align your strengths with our growth ambitions.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include undertaking fluvial geomorphology and WFD assessments across a diverse project portfolio, contributing to internal training material development, leading and assisting proposal writing for a wide client base, conducting watercourse BNG assessments and developing enhancements to achieve 10% net gain, producing high-quality reports, and managing scheduling and budgets. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to business development within the hydromorphology service line.

Our rapidly growing hydromorphology team provides technical expertise to a diverse range of clients including Rail, Highways, Local Authority, Housing, and Private Development sectors. Projects include fluvial audits, erosion monitoring, sediment studies, geomorphology and WFD assessments for flood alleviation and infrastructure schemes, natural flood management, channel design, and development of new hydromorphology assessment methods. Requirements

Experience
Strong professional experience and track record in fluvial geomorphology and WFD, including field survey planning, leading and coordinating large projects, and managing dispersed teams of surveyors. Project management experience including management of subcontractors and associates. Experience undertaking WFD assessments.

Detailed specialist knowledge in one or more of the following is advantageous:
- River channel design
- Sediment sampling and analysis
- GIS skills
- BNG River Condition Assessment (RCA) with RCA accreditation desirable
- Fluvial audit

About you
Experienced and enthusiastic, flexible self-starter capable of independent work and teamwork. Highly motivated, numerate with excellent communication skills. Able to apply technical knowledge to analyse problems and develop solutions to new challenges.

Qualifications
Relevant degree (BSc or MSc) in environmental science, geography, or equivalent. Full membership of CIWEM, CIEEM, RGS preferred, with chartered status desirable. WSP supports and mentors candidates on their chartership journey.
