About the Role
We are seeking a candidate with a suitable professional qualification and experience in forestry to undertake practical work supporting the delivery and management of 400 hectares of woodland and biodiversity sites across the borough. This role involves a variety of outdoor, physically demanding tasks across multiple sites, including monitoring and coordinating contractor work and helping to arrange and run practical conservation activities for volunteers. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to develop and apply arboricultural and biodiversity knowledge and skills under the supervision of senior woodland and ecology habitat programme leads. The postholder must be able to work independently, use their own initiative, and undertake basic administrative and monitoring tasks. Training may be provided to cover COSHH, use of power tools, and other equipment necessary to carry out the role safely and in compliance with health and safety requirements. The initial contract is funded for four years with the possibility of extension depending on future income, projects, and grants.

Requirements

Experience
Relevant professional qualification and practical experience in forestry are essential. Experience in managing woodland and biodiversity sites, coordinating contractor work, and supporting volunteer conservation activities is highly desirable.

About you
You should be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varied and sometimes challenging conditions. The ability to work independently, use your own initiative, and manage multiple tasks is important. A proactive and collaborative approach aligned with the council’s core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Value for Money, and Empowerment is expected.

Qualifications
A suitable professional qualification in forestry or a related discipline is required. Additional training will be provided as necessary to support safe use of equipment and compliance with health and safety standards.
