About the Role
We are seeking recent graduates with a degree in an environmental-related subject who are eager to build knowledge and experience across diverse sectors within the construction industry. As part of Costain's Graduate Development Programme, you will develop your personal, leadership, business, and technical skills over a two-year period. The programme includes specialised technical training, mentoring, and opportunities to rotate between projects and sectors such as nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports, and tunnels to gain a broad understanding of the business.
Responsibilities include supporting Framework/Project SHE Managers, assisting with Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) policies and statutory requirements, advising on accident and environmental incident prevention, supporting legal consents and licences, preparing and reviewing Health, Safety and Environmental Management Plans, conducting site inspections, assisting with tenders, preparing Environmental Risk Assessments and Method Statements, monitoring and reporting SHE performance, investigating environmental incidents, delivering SHE training, and promoting company safety campaigns.
You will also be involved in audits (internal, external, supply chain), client and environmental meetings, maintaining regulatory contacts, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and company standards. The role requires maintaining competency through qualifications and training, and leading by example in SHE management.
Experience
Environmental related experience is essential. Relevant SHE experience in construction or engineering is desirable.

Qualifications
Environmental related degree. IEMA Associate Qualification or equivalent NVQ. Affiliate Member IOSH or Affiliate Member IEMA or equivalent. Desirable: Tech IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent.
