About the Role
We are seeking recent graduates with a degree in an environmental-related subject who are eager to build their knowledge and experience across diverse sectors within the construction industry. As part of Costain's Graduate Development Programme, you will develop personal, leadership, business, and technical skills through a structured two-year programme that includes technical training, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Graduates may rotate between projects or sectors every 8-12 months to gain a broad understanding of the company’s services.
You will support Framework/Project SHE Managers by assisting with health, safety, and environmental management plans, site inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance with statutory requirements. You will also contribute to environmental audits, supply chain audits, and promote company safety campaigns. The role offers exposure to exciting projects across sectors such as nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports, and tunnels.

Experience
Environmental related experience is essential. Relevant SHE experience in construction or engineering is desirable.

Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills. Passionate about Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets. IT proficient with strong attention to detail. Willingness to learn and work accurately under instruction. Able to build and maintain positive relationships and thrive in pressured situations. Empathetic communicator with people from diverse backgrounds. Mobility and flexibility to work on various projects across the UK. Full UK Driving Licence is essential. Ability to obtain Security Clearance for roles within the Nuclear & Defence sector.
Qualifications
Environmental related degree and IEMA Associate Qualification or equivalent NVQ. Affiliate Member IOSH or Affiliate Member IEMA or equivalent. Desirable qualifications include Tech IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent. Candidates must provide passport and/or right to work documentation if invited to interview.
