About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity to join a small and dedicated team delivering a major transformation of the landscape at the Great Fen. The Great Fen is the oldest and one of the largest of the Wildlife Trusts' living landscapes and is entering an exciting new phase. Thanks to a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, we are restoring farmed arable land to wetland, securing the missing link between two Fenland National Nature Reserves: Holme and Woodwalton Fens. We are also demonstrating innovative wet farming practices aimed at inspiring change across farmed peat soils nationally.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering both hard and soft landscaping and raising water tables to create hundreds of hectares of new wetland habitat. This will involve managing large-value contracts with specialist wetland civil engineers as well as providing hands-on management. Working alongside the Project Manager, the Project Officer will ensure the extensive restoration programme is delivered and reported on effectively.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with establishment management and monitoring activities such as tractor use and protected species monitoring. The role also involves supporting the development of partnerships across the Fenland area and contributing to planning and preparation for future works, including assisting with funding bids through quotes, tendering, and planning application preparation.
We are looking for a motivated and friendly individual with existing conservation, wetland, and contract management experience who can immediately contribute to this complex and exciting programme. The ideal candidate will be an organised self-starter with a practical approach and a can-do attitude, ready to bring together multiple work streams to create something truly special.
